Zionism

A term created in 1890 to signify the modern political movement advocating the national return of Jewish people to the biblical land of Israel. There are currently many forms of Zionism across the political spectrum. "Zionist" refers to a person, idea, or movement that advocates for the Jewish people’s national return to the biblical land of Israel.

Weimar Republic

Named after the city where its constitution was adopted, the Weimar Republic designates the democratic, constitutional republic of Germany that existed from 1918-1933, between the end of the Imperial period (1871-1918) following World War I and the beginning of Nazi rule (1933-1945) in Germany.

War Refugee Board

Established by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 for the purpose of enacting rescue and relief policies of Jews through collaboration between various organizations and groups.

Wannsee Conference

On January 20, 1942, a meeting of high-level Nazi officials representing the SS and police, the party, and various government ministries took place at a villa on the Wannsee near Berlin. What later became known as the “Wannsee Conference” was convened by Head of the Security Police and the Security Service of the SS Reinhard Heydrich. At the meeting, Heydrich and others discussed coordination of efforts for the implementation of the the genocidal plan for the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question.”
