A symbol of Judaism and the Jewish people. It is composed of two overlapping triangles, forming a six-pointed star.

shacharit

From a Hebrew word meaning “dawn.” The shacharit is a morning prayer and one of three prayers traditionally said throughout the day.  

mitzvah

A Hebrew word originally referring to any of God’s commandments, which has come to mean the performance of any good deed.  

kosher

Refers to Jewish dietary rules determining which foods are permissible and how they must be prepared. These rules derive from the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy. 

Israeli Defense Force (IDF)

The Israeli military was created at the founding of the State of Israel in 1948. Israel holds a universal draft, meaning all citizens, men and women, are required to serve in the IDF in some capacity for two to three years.
